Dear Fellow New Yorker,

This past week, Mayor Adams hosted a Greek heritage reception at Gracie Mansion in celebration of Greek independence. Our Greek community has played a major role in making New York City the great city we are today. We thank Greek New Yorkers for their invaluable contributions to our city and our communities. 

Mayor Adams also hosted a Community Conversation in the Rockaways in Queens. The event provided a platform for neighbors to voice their concerns to the Mayor, members of his administration, and city agencies. This continues the Mayor's commitment to directly engage with the community.

Mayor Adams and I also hosted an Indian roundtable, where community leaders from across our city met with the Mayor and agency Commissioners to discuss community issues and concerns. It was an honor to sit down with them to learn how we can keep serving our city together.

The Mayoral Service Recognition Program is an annual citywide celebration of volunteers and service members — and now, it's your turn to help decide this year's five Service Impact Award winners! 

We're honoring outstanding organizations, businesses, volunteers, and AmeriCorps alumni who have led impactful service projects in 2024. You can cast your vote for one nominee in each category, recognizing those who have made a real difference in New York City communities.

April is Youth Action Month — a time to empower young people to make a difference in their communities! NYC Public Schools Survey

Every year, we ask all families, teachers, and staff of grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. The information collected by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn.

Mayor Adams Appoints Randy Mastro As First Deputy Mayor

Mayor Eric Adams announced the appointment of Randy Mastro as first deputy mayor. Mastro is a nationally-renowned lawyer; an experienced public servant with an impressive record in government service; a long-time pro bono advocate for social justice, civil rights, and constitutional rights; a leader of revered civic organizations; and a proven leader committed to diversity and inclusion. As a lifelong New Yorker, Mastro's commitment to public service is highly regarded, and he will bring his decades of experience in both the public and private sectors to serve the city and its nearly 8.5 million residents.     

Mayor Adams Announces NYC Health + Hospitals has Connected More Than 1,000 Medically-Vulnerable New Yorkers Leaving Rikers Island With Smartphones to Increase Access to Health Care and Mental Health Treatment

Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Dr. Mitchell Katz continued “Mental Health Week ” by announced that the city has connected more than 1,000 medically-vulnerable New Yorkers leaving Rikers Island with smartphones as part of its smartphone access program, enabling them to remain engaged in health care, mental health treatment, connect with job and housing resources, and stay connected to loved ones upon returning to their communities.

Mayor Adams Kicks Off Public Review on Jamaica Neighborhood Plan to Create Nearly 12,000 New Homes, Make Hundreds of Millions of Dollars in Investments to Area

Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) Director and City Planning Commission (CPC) Chair Dan Garodnick announced the start of the public review process for the Jamaica Neighborhood Plan, a transformative proposal to deliver thousands of homes, thousands of jobs, and hundreds of millions of dollars in investments to Jamaica, Queens. The proposal would update zoning to spur the creation of over 12,000 new homes — including approximately 4,000 permanently income-restricted affordable homes — to a 230-block area of this transit-accessible neighborhood.
