Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Last week, Mayor Adams announced the appointment of four new deputy mayors who will join the leadership team at City Hall and help continue delivering a safer, more affordable city. Adolfo Carrion, Jr. will move from commissioner of HPD to serving as deputy mayor for housing, economic development, and workforce; Suzanne Miles-Gustave will be deputy mayor for health and human services; Jeffrey Roth will serve as deputy mayor for operations; and Kaz Daughtry has moved from the NYPD to become the deputy mayor for public safety.
Mayor Adams also announced the launch of the "Village Interagency Task Force", a new multi-agency quality-of-life improvement initiative that will bring together law enforcement, elected officials, community, and business leaders to address the public safety and quality of life issues in the Greenwich Village and West Village neighborhoods near Washington Square Park. The new task force is being launched as part of the Adams administration’s “Community Link” program – a collaborative, multi-agency response to chronic problems across the five boroughs.
Finally, this week is Civics Week. Civics Week, a NYC Public Schools initiative, is a time for schools across the city to celebrate youth voice, civic empowerment, and the importance of registering to vote. We encourage you and your kids to visit here for more information and additional updates throughout the week.

NYC Public Schools Survey
Every year, we ask all families, teachers, and staff of grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. The information collected by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn.

One of the reasons we’ve been so successful driving down overall crime across our city is because of the work we've done taking illegal firearms off our streets. And just a couple months into the new year, we've already confiscated another 1,000 firearms. |

Mayor Adams Announces Removal of Over 1,000 Illegal Firearms From New York City Streets Since Beginning of 2025
Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch announced that the NYPD removed over 1,000 illegal firearms from New York City streets since the beginning of the new year – bringing the total number of firearms seized since the start of Adams administration to 20,700. The significant firearm seizure figure represents more than 3,000 additional illegal guns removed from New York City streets compared to three years before Mayor Adams came into office, between 2019 and 2021. Because of the Adams administration's steadfast focus on eradicating gun violence, homicides and shootings have consistently declined over the last three years, dropping a total of 42.2 percent and 22.7 percent for shootings and homicides, respectively.
