Understanding Human Trafficking: What it is and How to Address it
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and the Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) is hosting this public training, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. This training is open to the general public and helps participants challenge biases and misconceptions about human trafficking, and learn about Global, Federal, and State Laws that define labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and commercial exploitation of children and youth. Attendees will become familiar with the intersection between human trafficking and other forms of Gender-Based Violence, as well as the role that systemic oppression plays in creating vulnerabilities to trafficking for marginalized communities.

Call for Applicants for the Language Assistance Advisory Committee (LAAC)
The NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) is looking for candidates to serve on the Language Assistance Advisory Committee (LAAC) during 2025. The LAAC is a charter-mandated advisory group that plays a vital role in implementing CEC's Voter Language Assistance (VLA) Program and advancing language justice. The VLA program expands access to voting for Limited English Proficient voters in select languages and jurisdictions. Individuals passionate about language access and civic engagement are encouraged to apply: on.nyc.gov/LAAC

Mayor Adams Appoints Camille Joseph Varlack as Deputy Mayor for Administration, Tiffany Raspberry as Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Affairs
Mayor Eric Adams today announced that Chief of Staff Camille Joseph Varlack has been elevated to the role of deputy mayor for administration, and that Director of Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) Tiffany Raspberry will serve as deputy mayor for intergovernmental affairs. Deputy Mayor Varlack will also continue to serve in her role as chief of staff, while adding oversight of several key city units, including the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services and co-chairing the New York City Performance Cabinet.
Mayor Adams Announces new Round of Migrant Shelter Closures, Including one of City's Largest Facilities, after 27 Straight Weeks of Shelter Census Declines
Mayor Eric Adams announced that — thanks to the administration’s successful asylum seeker management strategies and federal border policy changes the city advocated for that have continued to drive down the number of people in the city’s care for 27 straight weeks and reduce costs by nearly $2.8 billion over three fiscal years — 13 new emergency shelters serving asylum seekers across the five boroughs, including Hall Street in Brooklyn, one of the city’s largest facilities that currently houses approximately 3,500 migrants, are slated to close by June 2025.
Mayor Adams Celebrates Surpassing 2024 State of the City Commitment to Advance 24 Affordable Housing Projects on 24 Public Sites in 2024
Mayor Eric Adams today celebrated surpassing the city's ambitious "24 in 24" plan to advance 24 affordable housing projects on public sites in 2024, ultimately creating or preserving over 13,000 units of housing. Delivering on a key promise in Mayor Adams' 2024 State of the City address, the city advanced 26 projects across all five boroughs in 2024 as the city continues to face a generational housing crisis and 1.4 percent rental vacancy rate.
