Restarting Construction Safely

Since the beginning of the restart of construction, we have been educating the industry about the new rules regarding social distancing to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Alongside NYS guidelines, we provided Dos and Don'ts and other resources for Phase One construction. We also created this up-to-date Frequently Asked Questions resource

We know that construction is a vital economic engine in the city but if we don't do our part in minimizing the spread of COVID-19, we risk stalling that engine. For this reason, starting July 8, we will begin to issue violations for those who have not adhered to NYS and DOB social distancing and hygiene guidelines for reopening.

New COVID-19 Stop Work Orders Rescission Portal

Construction sites that do not follow COVID-19 safety guidance by failing to have a Safety Plan and/or affirmation posted conspicuously and available for inspection or failing to have at least one hand washing or hand sanitizing facility will be issued a Stop Work Order (SWO). See our Service Notice for information about the new portal in DOB NOW: Safety to request rescission of COVID-19 safety guidance SWOs.

Can You Answer These General Restart Questions?

  • What is a Safety Plan and do I need one?
  • Who must wear a face covering?
  • Are hand washing stations required?
  • What types of logs am I expected to have on site?

For the answers to these questions and more, visit DOB's NYC Construction Restart page
