WORKER ALERT: Know the Dos and Don'ts of Façade Safety

Façade work performed on scaffolding can be extremely dangerous and workers must follow proper safety procedures at all times to prevent death or serious injury.

To help those engaged in façade construction work in New York City, DOB has issued a new Worker Alert. This Worker Alert offers practical guidance on how to perform façade construction work safely.

Proper scaffold set up is essential. For requests of a DOB inspection of corner/angle scaffolds, a Corner/Angle Scaffold Inspection Request Form must be submitted. Be ready for a successful corner/angle scaffold inspection by meeting the inspection requirements laid out in this Service Notice.

*Chimneys supporting gas and/or oil heating appliances can become blocked and cause flue gasses to be backed up into the living space. Flue gasses are hazardous to occupants and can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. DOB strongly recommends that building owners perform annual inspections of the clean out at the base of chimneys that support fuel-fired heating appliances.
