MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING QUICK RESPONSE CODES BE INCLUDED ON CITY ISSUED PERMITS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The next bill before me is Introductory 771-A, sponsored by Council Members Garodnick, Fidler, Gentile, Jackson, James, Lander, Brewer, Gennaro, Van Bramer, Lappin, Barron and Halloran.  Introductory Number 771-A requires Quick Response Codes or similar technology be included on City issued permits, licenses and registrations.

“Quick Response Codes are matrix barcodes which when scanned with a portable electronic device allow users to access additional information on the internet.  Introductory Number 771-A will enable New Yorkers to instantaneously access any additional information beyond what appears on the permit, license of registration.

“This legislation represents the latest of many initiatives which will further advance our Administration’s efforts to make government more accessible and transparent.

“I would like to thank Chief Information and Innovation Officer Rahul Merchant and Chief Digital Officer Rachel Hoat along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs for their work on this bill.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation.”
