STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON STATE ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY LEGISLATION

“The State Assembly has stood up for the civil rights of all New Yorkers by passing landmark marriage equality legislation for the fourth time. Enormous credit is due to Speaker Silver and, in particular, to the Assembly’s tireless champion on this issue, Danny O’Donnell. I hope and believe that the State Senate will pass marriage equality in the days ahead, with more Republican Senators following the example set by their courageous colleagues, Roy McDonald and Jim Alesi. They, like Assemblyman Nick Perry, Assemblyman Karim Camara, Assemblyman Nelson Castro and New Yorkers all across our great state, have struggled with this issue and decided that we cannot wait any longer for equality to become the law of the land.”
