STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S SIGNING OF A DISASTER DECLARATION FOR DECEMBER BLIZZARD

“By signing a disaster declaration for Staten Island, President Obama has cleared the way for reimbursement of expenses from December’s historic blizzard. The declaration means that New York City will be reimbursed for costs incurred on Staten Island during and after the storm for snow removal efforts and emergency measures including overtime, equipment rental, and temporary labor.

“New York State’s application included requests for declarations in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx that were not granted. Those boroughs were hard hit by the storm and I think deserved to be included in the declaration. We are appreciative of the declaration for Staten Island and the federal reimbursement will help relieve a burden on our snow budget. I’d also like to thank Governor Cuomo and the State Office of Emergency Management for their preparation of New York State’s application.”
