“Today’s failed vote in the Senate on the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act is a devastating indictment of Washington politics, a tragic example of partisan politics trumping patriotism.  The attacks of 9/11 were attacks on America, and we have a collective responsibility to care for the heroes – from all 50 states – who answered the call of duty, saved lives, and helped our nation recover. It is encouraging that a clear majority of senators support the bill, and I urge Senate Republicans to reconsider their wrong-headed political strategy and allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote. We will continue waging our battle to provide medical monitoring and treatment for the first responders and survivors of the September 11th attacks.
