STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE DEATH OF FIRST CHAIRPERSON OF THE CITY'S COMMISSION ON WOMEN'S ISSUES EDYTHE FIRST

“Edythe First was a great advocate for women who served as the first Chairperson of the City’s Commission on the Status of Women, which was established in 1975.  She set the standard for future leaders of the agency who would continue her work on behalf of women and families in New York City.  Her dedication to civic affairs and women’s issues – both as Chair of the Women’s Commission and as a long-time member and leader of the Women’s City Club – helped bring new opportunities and benefits to women living and working in New York City.  My thoughts are prayers are with her daughter, Susan First Pollack, and her family.  She will be missed, but she has left us with a lasting legacy.”
