BLOOMBERG ON THE DEATH OF DOROTHY HEIGHT "For the second time in a week, our nation has lost an original pioneer for civil rights, Dorothy Height, the longtime president of the National Council of Negro Women.  Like many before her and so many who came after and built on the foundations she created, Dorothy Height came to New York City to learn - at New York and Columbia universities; to lead - including marches and rallies in Times Square and across our City; and to bring people together - her work as a caseworker for the City's Welfare Department in Harlem in the 1930s led to her efforts to desegregate the Armed Services. Dorothy Height taught that 'we've got to work to save our children and do it with full respect for the fact that if we do not, then no one else is going to do it.'
