STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION IN ALBANY GIVING THE CITY THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE $100 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDS FOR NYCHA DEVELOPMENTS

"This week, members of the Senate and the Assembly, Democrats and Republicans together, responded overwhelmingly to one of the City's top legislative priorities by passing essential legislation to enable New York City to qualify for a substantial, permanent increase in federal funding for public housing. With today's vote, championed by Assembly Housing Chair Vito Lopez and State Senator Daniel Squadron, the New York City Housing Authority has the opportunity to access roughly $100 million in new federal funds annually to preserve, maintain and modernize our NYCHA developments.  On behalf of our 400,000 public housing residents, I want to thank the bill's sponsors, the leaders of both houses - Senate Democratic Leader Sampson, Senate Republican Leader Skelos, Assembly Speaker Silver and Assembly Minority Leader Kolb - and every legislator who stood up for the City of New York and our public housing."
