"Today's historic deal in Albany builds major momentum toward a critically important goal: reining in out-of-control pension costs in New York State and City.  The creation of a new pension tier, which our Administration has long been urging, is the only responsible way to address the long-term fiscal health of our City and State.  Governor Paterson recognizes this, and I appreciate both his leadership and the fact he has included the New York City pension systems in his plan - which will save City taxpayers billions of dollars.
