MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION TO RENAME EIGHTEEN STREETS OR PUBLIC PLACES

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The second bill before me today is Introductory Number 931-A, sponsored by CM's Arroyo, Comrie, de Blasio, Gioia, Gonzalez, Ignizio, Jackson, Mealy, Palma, Reyna, Sanders, Vacca and Weprin.  Introductory Number 931-A renames eighteen thoroughfares and public places.

"The first name I will read, Firefighter Peter A. Bielfeld Way, in the Bronx, is a street named in honor of this firefighter who died on September 11, 2001 and although this is a modest gesture, this local law demonstrates the City's commitment to always remember those who perished that day.

"The remaining names represent individuals or entities that are being honored for their lifetime accomplishments, and while it is not possible to describe the reason each individual or entity is deserving of a street name change, each Council Member who submitted a name presented justification for this honor.
