MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING WATER TANK INSPECTIONS TO BE MADE PUBLIC

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The final bill before me today is Introductory Number 408-A, sponsored by Council Members Garodnick, Brewer, Dickens, Gennaro, Gentile, Gerson, Gonzalez, James, Liu, Martinez, Mealy, Nelson, Stewart, Weprin, Sears, Jackson, White and Arroyo. Introductory Number 408-A requires building owners to post notice in a location easily accessible to tenants that water tank inspection results are available upon request.

"If a building owner fails to provide the results, the person requesting the results may contact the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene who will attempt to get the results on his or her behalf. The Department will also prepare and submit to the Council an annual report for the next three years regarding building owner compliance with water tank inspections.

"I would like to thank the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene Commissioner Thomas Frieden and his staff for their work on this bill. I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
