MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING THE DISPLAY OF A PASSENGERS’ BILL OF RIGHTS BY CITY TAXI AND LIVERY CABS

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The second bill before me today is Introductory Number 880-A, sponsored by Council Members Garodnick, Arroyo, Avella, Brewer, Fidler, Gonzalez, Jackson, James, Koppell, Lappin, Palma, Reyna, Seabrook, Yassky, Nelson, de Blasio, Mendez, White, Gerson, Martinez, Sanders, Sears and Liu. Introductory Number 880-A requires the display of a passengers' bill of rights in City taxis and liveries.

"In 1996 the Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) established a passenger bill of rights for taxis. This legislation codifies that bill of rights and extends it to liveries as well, while making some helpful additions to ensure the maximum satisfaction of the passengers who ride in the City's more then 13,000 taxis and 20,000 liveries.

"I would like to thank TLC Commissioner and Chair Matthew Daus and his staff for their work on this bill. I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
