STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON STATE DETERMINATION THAT THE NUMBER OF "PERSISTENTLY DANGEROUS" CITY SCHOOLS IS DOWN BY MORE THAN A THIRD
State Department of Education Announced Today that 16 New York City Public Schools are "Persistently Dangerous" Under Federal No Child Left Behind Act - Down From 25 Last Year
Six City Schools Were Added to the State's List Today - Down from 16 Last Year
Fifteen City Schools Were Removed from the State's List Today - Up from 5 Last Year
"We're continuing to see progress on all fronts. The State removed more City schools from its list than it did last year, they added fewer new ones, and the overall number of 'persistently dangerous' City schools is down 36 percent. With our 11 percent drop in felony crimes in schools, this good news is not surprising. Our schools safety agents, teachers and principals should be proud, but we will push to keep the progress going. Our parents and students deserve the safest and most productive learning environment we can provide, and our goal is to deliver nothing less."
