STATEMENT BY MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION'S RELEASE OF ORDER ON NEW RATE PLAN FOR CON EDISON

"New York City's future is dependent on reliable and affordable energy and efficient energy consumption. Yesterday's approval of a new rate plan for Con Edison by the Public Service Commission is a step forward for encouraging investment for system improvements, but also a step back in increasing energy efficiency.

"That is because the Public Service Commission has failed to issue a directive for increased Con Edison energy efficiency initiatives as I had asked them to do earlier this month. We first began our pursuit of energy efficiency last year when we released PlaNYC. Our partners in State government followed suit with their own "15 by 15" plan for reducing growth in energy demand 15 percent by the year 2015. I hope that either the Commission rectifies this omission in the months ahead or that Con Edison voluntarily proposes efficiency programs to the Public Service Commission so that they can be put into place as soon as possible."
