STATEMENT FROM MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY PASSING LEGISLATION TO ELIMINATE CITY SALES TAX ON CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR

"The strength of New York City's economy rests on our ability to remain business-friendly while at the same time convincing tourists and residents alike to shop in our stores, eat in our restaurants and stay at our hotels.  Today's legislation to repeal the City sales tax on clothing and footwear over $110 accomplishes both of these goals and helps maintain our economic competitiveness in the region.  I want to thank the sponsors, Senator Padavan and Assemblyman Farrell, as well as the entire Senate and Assembly for their hard work.  New York is already the greatest place in the world to live, work and visit, and this new tax cut will make it an even better place to do all three."
