MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION UPDATING CITY’S ELECTRICAL CODE

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Law

“The final bill before me today is Introductory Number 425-A, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Dilan, Comrie, Nelson, Seabrook, Sears, Stewart,Baez, Gonzalez, Weprin and White.  This bill updates the City’s Electrical Code as required by Local Law 64 of 2001.

“Local Law 64 established a procedure which requires the City to update the Electrical Code based on revisions to the National Electrical Code.  The National Electric Code is a nationally recognized document that is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association and is typically updated every three years to reflect emerging standards and technologies.

“Passage of Introductory Number 425-A will help ensure that the City’s Electrical Code is the most current it can be and that the City continues to be the best place for people to live, work, and build.

“I would like to thank Department of Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster and her staff for their work on this legislation.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation.”
