STATEMENT BY BLOOMBERG ON RESIGNATION OF EDC INTERIM PRESIDENT JOSHUA J. SIREFMAN

"New York City has been very fortunate to have a talented and dedicated leader like Josh Sirefman working for the past four and a half years to make the City a better place to live, work and visit. Josh spearheaded many of the City's most important economic development initiatives and became a trusted adviser to Deputy Mayor Doctoroff and to me.

"During his tenure at the Economic Development Corporation and the Office of Economic Development & Rebuilding, Josh played a key role in the creation and implementation of our ambitious, five-borough economic development plan. He was a tremendous consensus builder during historic negotiations involving the Plaza Hotel and World Trade Center site plan, and he helped craft and advance major, area-wide revitalization plans in places like Downtown Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan and Coney Island. Among the many important projects Josh moved forward were the creation of the New York City Industrial Policy, the formation of the Mayor's Office for Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses, the redevelopment of the Homeport on Staten Island, and the expansion of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

"Josh also played an instrumental role in the restructuring of EDC and the Mayor's Office of Operations. Under his leadership as Chief Operating Officer and then President, EDC operated with increased professionalism, effectiveness and transparency. And Josh played a critical role in expanding the scope of the Office of Operations to include both enhanced agency services and the Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability.

"Josh's tireless efforts on behalf of New York City for the past four and a half years were marked with a tremendous combination of energy, creativity and intelligence, and he has been a true asset for our Administration. I know he will excel as he takes on new challenges as Senior Vice President and head of development in the United States for Brookfield Properties, and we wish him all the best."
