STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON LEGAL VICTORY IN CITY'S LAWSUIT AGAINST GUN MANUFACTURERS

"We are deeply gratified by today's decision in federal district court which held that the shameful gun legislation recently enacted by Congress - known as the 'Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,' but which should be called the 'Protection of Lethal Commerce in Arms Act' - does not apply to the City's lawsuit.  It is a victory for the City and a loss for the NRA.

"The murder of New York City Police Officer Dillon Stewart on Monday is deadly evidence that the scourge of guns in the City is ever-present.  Our lawsuit is designed and intended to stop this scourge. With the gun industry completely unwilling to take reasonable steps to control their own dealers, the City has no recourse but to go to the courts.  While the gun industry will undoubtedly seek to appeal this decision, our Corporation Counsel and its volunteer counsel, Thelen Reid & Priest, are confident that we will prevail."
