MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG, JERRY SEINFELD AND BABY BUGGY LAUNCH ONE MILLION DIAPER DRIVE

Diaper Drive to Raise Funds for One Million Quality Diapers for Children Throughout New York City

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Jerry Seinfeld today joined Baby Buggy to launch a diaper drive to raise funds to purchase and distribute one million quality diapers to families throughout New York City. The diapers will be distributed through more than 60 social service partners including the Administration for Children’s Services and the child centers in the New York City court system, that work with homeless and domestic abuse shelters and parenting programs.  Baby Buggy, founded by Jessica Seinfeld, is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting gently used and new gear and clothing for children in need in New York City.  Mayor Bloomberg and Jerry Seinfeld were also joined by Baby Buggy Executive Director Claudia Fleming and several young mothers at a press conference at the Baby Buggy offices in midtown Manhattan.

“I am happy to help Jerry, Jessica and Baby Buggy launch the One Million Diaper Drive,” said Mayor Bloomberg.  “In just three short years, Baby Buggy has helped improve the lives of thousands of New York City children and their parents, and the diaper drive is just the latest example of the generous and compassionate work it does to help families give their newest members the right start in life. I applaud their ongoing efforts and urge New Yorkers to pitch in to help reach the goal of one million diapers.”

“We are thrilled today to launch our One Million Diaper Drive,” said Jessica Seinfeld. “Since starting Baby Buggy, I have been overwhelmed with the generosity of so many individuals and organizations in this great City.  In the last 18 months alone, we have provided over 150,000 items of clothing, product and baby gear to thousands of children in the five boroughs.  I am proud and hopeful that we will reach our goal of raising over $200,000 to purchase one million diapers for New York City families in need. And I urge everyone to log onto to our website to make a donation.  And I would especially like to thank Johnson’s Baby and Balmex for their generosity as our lead launch donor.”

Donations to the Baby Buggy One Million Diaper Drive can be made by logging onto the Baby Buggy website at www.babybuggy.org or call 311.
