MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES NEW SPRING LINEUP FOR NYC TV
NYC TV 74 to Debut Eight New Spring Shows and Specials That Feature The Best of New York City and Opens the Window Into Municipal Government
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg tonight announced the 2004 Spring lineup for NYC TV at Gracie Mansion. NYC TV, the official television network of the City of New York, is debuting eight new shows and specials during its Spring Season, which starts this Friday, April 16th at 8pm. The new programs for the Spring season are: "Blueprint: New York City," "What's Cooking at Gracie," "Block Party," "New York Voices," "Media City," "NYC Football," "The Drama Desk Awards," and "Shaping the City." In February, NYC TV received four New York Emmy award nominations.
"No one ever thought municipal television could be entertaining - until NYC TV came along," said Mayor Bloomberg. "In just nine months, NYC TV has already received four New York Emmy award nominations, seen its programming air on PBS and signed deals with Delta Airlines and E! Entertainment TV. With this Spring Season, NYC TV adds more shows that are fun and informative."
"NYC TV continues to impress New Yorkers with its success," said the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications Commissioner Gino Menchini. "The Spring Season adds more original programming that only NYC TV could create - from full access tours of City landmarks to opening up Gracie Mansion to all New Yorkers."
"New Yorkers are eager for more local content that goes beyond news and sports - and NYC TV is playing a major role filling that need," said Arick Wierson, the General Manager of NYC TV. "Moreover, cities across the country see NYC TV as the benchmark for running successful municipal television stations. NYC TV is making an impact here in New York and shaping the way government-run television stations operate nationwide."
"NYC TV's Spring season has something for every New Yorker," said Seth Unger, NYC TV's Creative Director. "Our new shows highlight the best of New York - our creativity, diversity and energy. In only nine months, we've been able to change the way New Yorkers think about their municipal television station."
