MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES TENTATIVE LABOR AGREEMENT WITH THE SERGEANTS BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION
New Contract for 4,700 Uniformed Members of NYPD
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced a tentative settlement for a new contract for the approximately 4,700 Police Sergeants of the NYPD. The settlement is a thirty-month contract patterned after the economic terms reached with the other uniformed City employees and subject to ratification. Labor Relations Commissioner James F. Hanley, and Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) President Edward D. Mullins joined the Mayor for the announcement.
"This Economic Agreement provides wage increases and other benefits for the members of the Sergeants Benevolent Association," Mayor Bloomberg said. "In arriving at this settlement, the City applied the terms of the economic agreement reached with the other members of the Uniformed Forces Coalition and coupled the City's commitment to attain fiscally prudent settlements with the Unions' aim to achieve fair treatment and compensation for their members. I would finally like to thank NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Labor Commissioner James Hanley, the Sergeants Benevolent Association Executive Board, and their staffs for all their efforts in reaching this agreement."
The principal features of the agreement include:
"New York City's Sergeants provide a vitally important role that is of even more significance in the current climate. The agreement reached today will allow the City to adequately compensate Sergeants for their tremendous efforts in continuing to provide the highest level of safety and security to all of the citizens and visitors to New York City," concluded Mayor Bloomberg.
