MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES PROGRAMS
FOR COMMEMORATIVE GATHERINGS IN EVERY BOROUGH
ON SEPTEMBER 11TH
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today detailed the programs for the commemorative gatherings the City will host on September 11th in all five boroughs. The twilight gatherings will begin in each borough at 7:00 p.m. and include music and candle-lighting. The lighting of an eternal flame in historic Battery Park will be broadcast live at each of these events, followed by commemorative musical performances. All New Yorkers are encouraged to attend the gathering in their own borough at the locations listed below and to bring candles to join in the lighting at each.
All of the borough concerts will feature a vocalist, symphony, jazz group, and youth choir. The programs for each will differ slightly but the following works will be performed at all five concerts: "America the Beautiful," George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," and Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait," an orchestral performance accompanied by a live reader. "God Bless America" will conclude the concerts at 9:00 p.m. when President Bush's address to the nation will be broadcast at each of the gatherings.
