MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG'S STATEMENT
ON AGREEMENT IN QUEENS BUS STRIKE

"I am very pleased that the bus companies and Transit Workers Union were able to put aside their difference and reach an accord to end the strike. Like the agreement that was tentatively reached last month, the City will advance $3.75 million to the bus companies for health insurance costs; this money will be repaid to the City before the end of the TWU's 27-month contract in March 2003. I want to thank the Office of Labor Relations and Commissioner James Hanley for bringing all the parties together and working around the clock to resolve this strike. A great deal of credit is also due to Queens Borough President Helen Marshall for her tireless advocacy on behalf of the people of Queens."
