Snapple - Best People in NYC

This month Snapple and MVC celebrate imaginative and heart warming service by featuring the nonprofit, Only Make Believe.

The concept of Only Make Believe (OMB) developed out of a desire to introduce children living with chronic illnesses and disabilities to the magical world of theater. Because trips to the theater proved to be overwhelming for many of the young patients, OMB brought the theater to them, helping to create a unique version of live theater in which each child plays a part. Only Make Believe brings the energy of Broadway to any hospital in New York treating children living with chronic illnesses or disabilities. Lisa Del Guidice nominated OMB for this award

It's Back-to-School time!
School has begun for New York City's 1.2 million students! Take time out to get involved with a school in your neighborhood or near your office. It doesn’t much time to tutor a child, read to a student on your lunch break, be a mentor on the weekends, or help parents get more involved in their schools.

Mayor's Cup Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
The New York City Sports Commission, an agency within The Office of the Mayor, will be hosting the Mayor’s Cup Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at Manhattan College and Horace Mann High School on October 10-12, 2008. The tournament is the largest wheelchair basketball tournament in the Northeast, making it one of the premier events in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s national calendar. The Sports Commission is looking for volunteers to assist with various aspects of the event. This is a great opportunity for individuals to gain experience in the sport industry while serving the community. No requirements or training is necessary. Volunteers can work 4 hour shifts at any point during the tournament.
