DSNY Golden Apple Awards offer cash prizes in three TrashMasters! contests for schools in New York City (both public and private), grades K–12:

TrashMasters! Super Recyclers
TrashMasters! Reduce & Reuse Challenge
TrashMasters! Team Up to Clean Up

Submission deadline for 2013 contests is Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

See a list of the 2012 Golden Apple Awards contest winners! To view winning entries from previous years, use the Golden Apple Winners pull-down menu at the upper right corner of this page.

2012 winners received $6,000 for Citywide Winners; $3,000 for Borough Winners; and $1,500 for Borough Runners-Up  plus $1,000 for Golden Shovel Award winners in each borough. Award levels change year-to-year based on available funding.

Schools can compete in any or all of the three contests by completing separate and distinct projects for each contest. Schools enter in separate Elementary, Intermediate, and High School Divisions.

A judging panel of environmental educators and government officials carefully reviews the entries submitted to select the winners for each borough within each grade division. Winning schools receive cash prizes and certificates, as well as gifts for their participating students and staff.

Please note: schools cannot win multiple years for the same project. For ongoing projects, explain new initiatives.
