Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced tonight at Yankee Stadium that New York
City will host a ticker-tape parade in honor of the 2009 World Series Champion
New York Yankees on Friday, November 6, 2009. The parade will begin on Broadway
at Battery Place at 11:00 AM and continue northbound up the Canyon of Heroes to
Chambers Street. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at City Hall Plaza,
at which the Mayor will present the Yankees with Keys to the City.
"Congratulations to the Yankees for bringing the world championship back home
to New York City, where it belongs," said Mayor Bloomberg. "The Yankees
have thrilled the City all year long with their come-from-behind victories and
never-say-die attitude, and they did it again in the World Series. What's
sweeter than a World Series won at home? The only thing that comes close is a
ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes, and that's exactly what New Yorkers
will get on Friday. The Phillies were a tough team to beat, but I must admit I
look forward to seeing Mayor Nutter in pinstripes as he joins me and some of our
public schools students as we paint the Albert Einstein School in the
Bronx."
The sidewalks lining Friday's ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes
along Broadway from the Battery to City Hall are open to all members of the
public, and the City will set up a large screen near City Hall Park for members
of the public to watch the subsequent ceremony. There is very limited space on
City Hall plaza for the ceremony itself. The City will make a limited number of
tickets available to the public. Information about how tickets will be
distributed will be released on Thursday, November 5th.
There have been reports in the past of fraudulent offers for tickets to the
parade - including access to floats - and to the ceremony. There are no tickets
or passes to any portion of the parade, and any such offers are fake. Ceremony
tickets are not for resale. If you are aware of any tickets or passes being
sold, please call 311.
