Mayor Bloomberg unveiled first of its kind data analytics system that will help the Fire Department continue to keep New Yorkers safe
- The Risk Based Inspection System will help firefighters prioritize the nearly 50,000 full-building fire safety inspections they do throughout the City each year.
- The system takes into account, for example, the height and age of a building, the materials from which it was constructed, whether it has a sprinkler system, its last date of inspection, and other factors, and then helps the FDNY identify buildings at highest risk for fire.
- The system is an example of data making New York City safer. The Risk Based Inspection System helps makes the first line of fire defense in our city - fire safety inspections - even stronger.
