Mayor Bloomberg, Schools Chancellor Klein and United Federation of Teachers (UFT) President Weingarten announce a historic agreement to award cash bonuses to teachers at high-needs schools that raise student achievement. The schoolwide bonus program, a cash incentive program, will be implemented in about 200 of the City’s highest-needs schools during the current school year, and expanded to roughly 400 schools in the 2008-09 school year. Mayor Bloomberg and Parks & Recreation Commissioner Benepe break ground on a new bicycle and pedestrian path in Manhattan’s Riverside Park. The $13.3 million project will construct an over-water path, or Riverwalk, that will connect the Hudson River Esplanade from West 83rd to West 91st Streets, creating unbroken waterfront access from 59th Street to 133rd Street. The Mayor allocated over $13 million towards the project, with the remainder contributed through the federal Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act. Mayor Bloomberg and New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver break ground on the Alexandria Center for Science and Technology at the East River Science Park, a $700 million, 1.1 million square foot center for commercial bioscience on Manhattan’s East Side. Burney, AIA,  break ground on the new Central Park Precinct station house, which will serve the 840-acre expanse of Central Park from its historic location off the 86th Street Transverse.
