Swears in New Class of 275 NYPD Recruits
 
Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly swear in a new class of 275 New York City Police Department recruits. The recruits begin formal Police Academy training next week. The January 2009 Police Academy class consists of recruits who were born in 25 countries. A number of them have prepared for their careers as police officers by serving in the military including 13 that served with the United States military in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Today’s class includes 71 recruits that began their careers with the Police Cadet Corps and 146 who carry college or advanced degrees.
