NYCHA Partnership Creates Construction Training & Job Placement Program
New Yorkers will now have new employment opportunities through the Building Skills NY workforce-training program. The program ��� made possible through partnership between NYCHA, Building Skills NY, Brooklyn Workforce Innovation, and Goldman Sachs Bank���s Urban Investment Group - will recruit and train individuals to work on affordable housing projects in their local communities. NYCHA Chairman John B. Rhea emphasized the benefits of hiring within communities under development during the April 22 announcement, highlighting the advantages for residents, contractors, and housing developers.

After Hurricane Sandy brought the scourge of mold to the bathrooms, kitchens and basements of many NYCHA developments across the city, the Authority worked with partners to provide mold awareness training to residents through sessions held in Coney Island, the Lower East Side, Red Hook, the Rockaways and Staten Island.

NYCHA's Got Talent
The 43rd Annual NYCHA Talent Show Competition once again provided a professional venue for residents of all ages to display their talents in dance, music, drama and the spoken word. This year���s theme for the April 13 Competition was ���Change the World.��� Many of the participants were recruited from NYCHA Community and Senior Centers, but new talent was also discovered through the audition process.

Over the past several months, NYCHA has been meeting with residents, resident leaders, elected officials, and other stakeholders to present a proposal to develop new low-income and market rate housing on NYCHA land. The Authority���s ongoing engagement with residents and others has included a discussion of the challenges that make developing new, sustainable sources of revenue necessary, as well as information on how the plan will benefit public housing residents and communities across the City.

Resident Watch Volunteers Learn How to Keep Developments Safe
NYCHA held a July 9 training for volunteers of the Resident Watch program. Resident volunteers gave their time to learn more about keeping their respective developments safe and secure thanks to help from the New York City Police Department.

Request Photo Identification from NYCHA Employees
For the safety of our residents, we encourage you to ask employees for I.D. before allowing them access into your apartment. Please be aware that all NYCHA employees are required to carry identification and must show this I.D. upon request; it should have an orange sticker that says "2012-2013." It is the official source of photo identification for all NYCHA employees.
