Deputy Commissioner of External Affairs
Seth Solomonow
Seth Solomonow was appointed Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs in May 2012, overseeing the agency’s media relations and strategic communications.
Mr. Solomonow joined the agency as Press Secretary in October 2007, advising the commissioner and senior staff on media issues and promoting agency initiatives from Green Light for Midtown to the city’s historic safety record.
Before joining the department, Mr. Solomonow covered DOT and other transportation agencies as transportation reporter for the Staten Island Advance. He also worked for the New York Times following 9/11, writing and coordinating the Portraits of Grief page in the paper’s Pulitzer Prize-winning section, “A Nation Challenged.”
A native Staten Islander and a current Brooklyn resident, Mr. Solomonow graduated from the University of San Francisco and received a master’s degree from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
