About Love Your Block
NYC Service’s Love Your Block initiative invites eligible New York City resident-led groups to apply for a block beautification project.
Love Your Block provides a unique opportunity for resident-led groups to transform and beautify their neighborhood while leveraging City services. Resident-led groups (grantees) receive a $1,000 grant to transform a city block in their neighborhood.
In addition to the funding, grantees receive support with City services, including, but not limited to: trash collection, providing woodchip mulch for gardening projects, repair of and installation of street signs and street lights, and more.
The specific goals of the initiative are:
To expand the Love Your Block network of unique resident-led groups in high-need neighborhoods
To fund specific community revitalization activities through an annual mini-grant competition
To educate the Love Your Block network on City agency services, resources, and local civic engagement opportunities through social media posts, periodic emails, trainings/presentations, etc.
To facilitate the activation of City agency services (mulch delivery, trash collection, bike rack survey, etc.)
To increase the quality of life through the improvement of public and community spaces
To engage Love Your Block volunteers in organized, one-day events that aim to beautify their blocks
What City agencies provide services?
NYC Service appreciates the support of our agency partners NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Parks, New York City Department of Sanitation, and NYC Department of Transportation for providing Love Your Block grantee services.

April 11, 2023 – Application Launch
April 13, 2023 – Virtual Love Your Block
May 1, 2023 – Application Deadline
May 15, 2023 – Grantee Announcement
May 23, 2023 – Grantee Orientation
May 31, 2023 – City Agency Service Request Forms Due
June 17th – September 10, 2023 – Love Your Block Project Implementation
Qualifications
Below are the qualifications, expectations, and the City agency services offered to grantees. All applicants must have a detailed Action Plan for engaging residents to carry out a physical transformation of the public community spaces on their block. Specifically, each group must:
