Like the City's printed Voter Guide, the Video Voter Guide is designed to provide New Yorkers with profiles of candidates that will help them make more informed decisions in the voting booth.
The Video Voter Guide is a project of the Voter Assistance Commission, in partnership with NYCTV, media partner NBC NY Nonstop, and the NYC Campaign Finance Board.
Candidates participating in the Guide are asked to prepare statements that convey their reasons for seeking office and reflect the key planks of their platforms. Candidates present their statements in the language(s) of their choice. Translations are provided in Spanish (Citywide), Chinese (Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens) and Korean (Queens).
Participation in the Video Voter Guide is voluntary and requires candidates to sign an affidavit accepting basic nonpartisan rules designed to assure the appropriate use of this important public resource. Candidates appearing on the program were scheduled to appear on the primary ballot as of the time of program production. If later events resulted in changes in the final ballot, then candidates who appear on this program may not appear on the ballot. In addition, candidates who have not chosen to participate in the Video Voter Guide do not appear on this program, but are still listed at www.nyc.gov/videovoter.
