FAQ

This election cycle, the NYC Voter Assistance Commission has launched for the first time the Video Voter Guide, an exciting new public resource designed to provide voters with a nonpartisan interactive approach to learn about candidates for City office. Candidates running in the general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 for the offices of Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, Borough President, and City Council member were offered the opportunity to appear on NYC TV 74 to present a pre-recorded statement to the voters. This website is designed to track the Video Voter Guide and provide access to voters and others to view the pre-recorded candidate statements, as well as accompanying transcribed and translated versions of their statements. Translations are provided in Spanish (Citywide), Chinese (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens) and Korean (Queens). Candidates running who did not record a statement are also listed accordingly. Statement running times are as follows:

Candidates for City Council:
Two (2) minutes
Candidates for Borough President:
Three (3) minutes
Candidates for Citywide Offices (Mayor, Comptroller, and Public Advocate):
Four (4) minutes

In addition, Ballot Questions 3 and 4 have been put forth by the City’s Charter Revision Commission. The proposals are found on Video Voter Guide, as well as at the Charter Revision Commission website, which also offers detailed summaries and reports on the issues.
