maintains Job
Centers in all five boroughs. Job centers offer temporary financial assistance, food stamps, and Medicaid to eligible individuals. While in receipt of financial assistance, eligible adults are required to participate in an employment or rehabilitative activity designed to help them achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency. While participating, individuals are provided with child care and transportation support.

public assistance recipients across a broad demographic spectrum become

positions. America Works work with Americans who are on public assistance,
receiving food stamps, the formerly incarcerated, youths aging out of foster
care, the homeless and sheltered, non-custodial parents, people living with
HIV/AIDS and Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
