February 17-18th, 2005 Mr. Steven Sack, Director of Arts, Culture and Heritage Services represents Johannesburg at the February Public Art Summit, “Strategies for Public Art.” Mr. Sack presents “Johannesburg: Reclaiming Public Space” at the Summit. Johannesburg’s White Paper is available here.

Johannesburg Security Summit
Representatives from Johannesburg to the Security Summit in Times Square with New York City police officers.

October 28-29th, 2003 Johannesburg sends representatives to the October 2003 Security Summit "Meeting the Challenges of Terrorism and Crime." The delegation included the Chief of Police of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department.

February 6-7th, 2003 During the Sister City Summit on “Rebuilding International Tourism,” Mayor Masondo and Mayor Bloomberg sign a declaration declaring February 6th, 2003 as New York City/Johannesburg Sister City Day in the cities of New York and Johannesburg. This declaration celebrated a nine-year Sister City relationship between the two cities.

February 2003 Tourism Summit "Rebuilding International Tourism"

February 5th, 2003: Mayor Masondo visits New York City and meets with several New York City departments and figureheads, including: the Citywide Coordinator for AIDS Policy, the New York City Department of Business Services, the New York City Police Department, the New York City Department of Homeless Services, and the New York City Department of City Planning.
