Partnership Highlights
The Sister City Program of the City of New York, Inc. has helped to maintain strong bonds between Cairo and New York City in the following ways:
Economic Development: One of the Sister City Program's first actions was to arrange for the participation of New York City in major international trade fairs in Cairo, helping to strengthen the business alliance between the two cities.
Disaster Relief and Redevelopment: In 1992, following the aftermath of a devastating Egyptian earthquake, the Sister City Program spearheaded a quarter million dollar effort to rebuild a school in Tura, on the outskirts of Cairo.
Educational Exchange: In 1983 an educational exchange program was founded under the Sister City Program of the City of New York, Inc. Its primary goals were to provide young people of both cities the opportunity to experience and share lifestyles, cultures, and traditions. The exchange ensured the continuation of an amicable relationship between the two cities by providing youth an opportunity to develop cross-cultural ties during their formative years.
