The Mayor’s Office for International Affairs organizes various diplomatic outreach events and services throughout the year. Past events have included a seminar on safety in the diplomatic and consular community, a conference on equal employment rights, and a speakers' forum featuring the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. Each year, the Office educates new United Nations staff members and interns on life in New York City, as well as the services offered by the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs.
In addition, the Office provides several publications for the diplomatic community including New York, Host to the World, an informative guide to New York City for newly arrived diplomatic officers, and Safety Tips for the Diplomatic Community, produced by the New York City Police Department. The Office also has an outreach volunteer corps, whose members meet with newly arrived diplomats, offering information about the City, and ensuring that their transition to New York is an enjoyable one.
