Strategic Interagency Collaboration

The causes of truancy and chronic absenteeism are complex and varied, with no easy answers. That is why the Mayor has brought various stakeholders together to assist the Department of Education in reducing absenteeism through innovative, multi-agency strategies. By pooling the resources, skills, systems, and information available at the Department of Education, the Administration for Children’s Services, the Department of Homeless Services, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Department of Youth and Community Development, the New York City Police Department, the Human Resources Administration, the New York City Housing Authority and the Department of Probation, and by fostering systematic collaboration among these agencies, the Task Force can develop comprehensive strategies to improve attendance and educational outcomes for students.
