TLC TO HOST MEDALLION SALE SEMINARS IN ALL FIVE BOROUGHS

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) will be hosting free seminars in each of the five boroughs of New York City to assist prospective taxicab medallion bidders and purchasers. This is in anticipation of the auction and sale of 900 additional taxicab medallions over the next three fiscal years (Fiscal Years, FYs, run from July 1 to June 30).

The free events are scheduled for March 2, 4 and 9, at convenient locations throughout the city. Both early and late sessions have been planned, to allow greater flexibility for those who wish to attend.

Speakers will present a multimedia presentation that, among other things, will encompass the history of the medallion, the medallion auction and sale process, the realities of medallion ownership, and the regulatory framework of the medallion taxicab industry. TLC staff will be on hand to answer all questions.

"This is a phenomenal opportunity," said TLC Commissioner/Chair Matthew W. Daus, "not only for the many who are interested in the possibilities of medallion ownership for investment purposes, but also for those in the industry, or in related industries today who see medallion ownership as a valuable step on their career ladder.

"Regardless of the reasons for their initial interest, I believe that all participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the medallion taxicab industry, of the sale and auction process, and of the reasons why medallion ownership may be right for them."
