Apply Online - Instructions and Next Steps

Submit your online application and payment using the link provided below. Before you apply online, your base will need to submit a Base Affirmation.  You will receive an email confirming your base has registered your request to license your vehicle and affiliate to their base.  If you have not received the email confirmation you will not be allowed to submit the application.  Contact your base if you do not receive a Base Affirmation confirmation through your email address.

When you submit your application online you will need to have the basic requirements:

  • The Vehicle information
  • Applicant information (Name, Address that is not a PO Box)
  • A valid, working Email address where we can contact you
  • A valid Social Security number or Earned Income Number (EIN).
  • Your Affiliating Bases’ Name and Number
  • Before you apply please make certain you do not owe any money to TLC, Parking Violations or have DMV tickets.  Your application will not be completed if you have outstanding fines.
  • A Checking Account, Debit Card or Credit Card.  If you pay by E-Check, you will not be charged a fee. The City of New York also accepts credit and debit cards and you will be charged a fee of 2.49% of the payment amount. This fee is nonrefundable.

NOTE: After you have submitted your application and have made your payment online, you must follow these steps:

  • You may submit your documents by uploading them or by faxing, emailing or mailing them to the TLC within 45 days.
  • Once TLC reviews your submissions and processes your application a DMV plate letter will be sent to the e-mail address you filed with your application.
  • Take your plate letter to a NYS DMV office to receive your “TC” For-Hire plates and registration.

Once you have received your plates and registration, you must submit a Plate Notification to let TLC know you have received your plates. Go here to submit your Plate Notification. After you have notified TLC of your new plate information, TLC will email you and your base an appointment for your vehicle inspection.

See below for additional New Vehicle Application Requirements.
