How can I submit a new driver license application?

The TLC is no longer accepting paper applications in person.  All applications for a TLC Driver’s license must be submitted online.  For detailed information on how to submit your application and required documents please go here.

What do I need to do to submit a new driver application?

If you wish to obtain a TLC Driver License, you must file an application online.

For information on what you need to submit to complete your application please go here.  The TLC will notify you of any open requirements you will need to submit.

Can I submit a driver application at the Staten Island office?

The Staten Island TLC office is not accepting paper driver applications. If you would like to submit a driver application you can only apply online.

How many TLC Driver license types are there?

There are four (4) TLC driver licenses:

  1. Medallion (allows you to drive Yellow Taxicab, Green Street Hail Livery and For Hire Car Service)
  2. For Hire Vehicle
  3. Commuter Van and
  4. Paratransit.

What do I need to do to get a Paratransit or Commuter Van License?

Paratransit and Commuter Van drivers are required to be 19-A certified.

I decided I do not want to apply for my TLC license but I already paid the fees. Can I get a refund?

There are no refunds for any application fees.  All application fees are not refundable as stated on the application pages before you submitted your application and payment.
