How can I submit a new TLC driver license application?

The TLC is no longer accepting paper applications in person.  All applications for a TLC Driver license must be submitted online.  For detailed information on how to submit your application and required documents please go here.

What do I need to complete to get a new TLC driver license?

If you wish to obtain a TLC Driver License, you must file an application online.

Can I submit a driver application at the Staten Island office?

The Staten Island TLC office is not accepting paper driver applications. If you would like to submit a driver application you can only apply online.

What are the New Fitness Rules? How will these rules effect my application?

The TLC made some changes to its license application process to make it easier and more efficient for applicants and the TLC. The new Rules include a one (1) year and three (3) year application ban depending on an applicant's TLC and DMV history Please refer to the New Fitness Rules for additional information.

How many TLC Driver license types are there?

There are three (3) TLC driver licenses:

  1. TLC Driver license (allows you to drive Yellow Taxicab, Green Street Hail Livery and For-Hire Car Service)
  2. TLC Commuter Van Driver license and
  3. TLC Paratransit Driver license.

What do I need to do to get a TLC Paratransit or Commuter Van License?

Paratransit and Commuter Van drivers are required to be 19-A certified.

Will I need to attend School if I am applying for a TLC Driver License (Medallion, Street Hail Livery and For Hire Vehicle)?

What do I need to complete after filing my application online?

I decided I do not want to apply for my TLC license but I already paid the fees. Can I get a refund?

There are no refunds for any application fees.  All application fees are not refundable as stated on the application pages before you submitted your application and payment.

How can I find the status of my New TLC Driver License?

How long will it take to receive my New TLC Driver License in the mail?

Once an applicant has submitted/completed all TLC requirements, the application will be thoroughly reviewed.  The applicant will either receive his/her license in the mail or will be contacted by text, email or a letter with a request for additional information which is necessary to continue the application process.

Each application and its processing time will depend on the individual's fingerprint response report, any prior TLC license revocations (which may require a TLC fitness hearing), and/or outstanding requirements or clearances from the Department of Motor Vehicles, Parking Violations Bureau, and TLC.

Applications are valid for ninety (90) calendar days from the date it is submitted to TLC. If an applicant does not complete all the licensing requirements within the ninety (90) calendar day period, the application will be denied.  All application fees are non-refundable.

My TLC license was mailed but I have not received it. What do I do?

If you have not received your TLC license in the mail, you must obtain a replacement.

You will need to wait 10 days from the date your license was mailed out.
After 10 days, you will need to visit our LIC facility located at: 31-00 47th Avenue, 3rd floor, Long Island City NY 11101 to submit a completed and signed Affirmation Form  and all required documents listed on the Instruction sheet.

If during the 10 day period the license you are currently using expires or is due to expire, you can visit our LIC facility to receive an extension sticker to allow you to continue to work until your newly approved license is received in the mail or until you submit the Affirmation Form after the 10 day period.  An extension sticker is only given if your license has already been approved, updated and mailed out.

What do I need to know about the interim (anniversary) Drug Test and Renewing Drug Test?

Interim (anniversary) - you must take the required drug test within ninety (90) days before the yearly anniversary of the date your license was issued.

Renewing Licensing - you must take the required drug test within ninety (90) days before the expiration date on your license.
