FAQs - Critical Driver

What is the Critical Driver Program?

The Critical Driver Program allows the TLC to suspend a driver’s TLC license for up to 30 days after a driver accumulates 6 or more points in a 15-month period.  Additionally, a driver’s TLC license will be revoked after a driver accumulates 10 or more points in a 15-month period.  Licensees may attend and complete a Defense Driving Course to reduce the number of Critical Driver points on their license.  For more information on Defense Driving courses, please visit the Defensive Driving Course Information webpage.

If you drive a Medallion Taxi, Street Hail Livery or a For Hire Vehicle and would like further information about the Critical Driver Program, please refer to Chapter 80.

If I receive a Critical Driver summons, what must I do?

If you receive a Critical Driver summons you must attend a TLC hearing. The hearing date can be found on your summons.
