Once potential "matches" are identified, members are responsible for independently communicating with each other to determine if an exchange is appropriate and desired. Each member has the discretion to accept or deny any service exchange.
It's always a good idea to compare service exchange opportunities to find the match that is best for you. Reach out to different members offering the same service to weigh your options before making a decision.
When talking with a member about a potential exchange, remember to ask the following questions:
- What is the most convenient day, time and meeting place for the exchange?
- Will the exchange be a one-time or on-going commitment?
- How long is the exchange expected to take?
- Are there any materials or expenses required to fulfill the exchange (e.g. groceries for cooking services; gas for transportation/errands services; appliances or accessories to make repairs)? If so, the receiver of the service should be informed and agree to the terms of payment in advance.
- Will there be travel involved? If so, the service provider can ask to be paid in "time credits" for the time spent traveling.
- What is the estimated total amount (service exchange + travel) of "timebanks credits" to be exchanged?
And please be courteous and respectful to fellow members:
- When discussing an exchange, write down the member's name, contact information, and pertinent details.
- Be truthful about the skill level that you possess. If you cannot meet the member's needs, be honest.
- Be truthful about the level of help that you need. If a member cannot meet your needs, be honest about wanting to consider options.
- If you need to cancel an exchange, be sure to notify the member in advance.
