UNDERSTANDING YOUR PROPERTY TAX NOTICE OF VALUE
LEARN HOW TO CHALLENGE YOUR TAX ASSESSMENT

You may attend a public briefing on the assessment and review process to assist you in preparing your Tax Commission application and proving your claim.  Topics will include how to complete the application properly; the difference between Finance's estimated market value and the assessed value; how to obtain evidence of market value to meet your burden of proof; and how to evaluate your own protest realistically.  Each session is expected to last about one hour.  There is no charge for this service.

TAX COMMISSION 2010 REAL PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT APPLICATION FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS

The Tax Commission is an independent agency authorized to correct the tax class, assessed value, or exemption of your property. Read your Department of Finance Annual Notice of Property Value. See page 3 of Finance's Notice of Value to determine if you should file an application with the Tax Commission. Applications to review assessments of properties in tax class 2, 3, or 4 must be filed by March 1, 2010. Owners of property in tax class 1 have until March 15, 2010. All applicants are strongly advised to read Form TC600 "How to Appeal a Tentative Assessment" before starting an application.

Use Finance's update form to ask Finance to correct descriptive information about your property, which is printed on your Notice of Value from Finance. A request to Finance for it to review your property description or tax assessment does not substitute for a timely application to the Tax Commission.
