PINSTRIPE POINTS
YANKEE STADIUM TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY

Due to the construction of the Yankees’ new ballpark, mass transit is the most efficient way to get back and forth from Yankees games. The Yankee Stadium subway stop is located right outside the Stadium at the corner of 161st St. and River Ave, where the #4 train as well as the B (weekdays only) and D trains make stops. MetroNorth train service to Connecticut and Westchester County is also available at the 125th St. subway stop. Additionally, the New York Transit Authority Bus Lines provide convenient service to Yankee Stadium via the BX 6, BX 13 and BX 55 buses, which all stop a short walk away from the stadium at the 161st St./Grand Concourse.

Arod, Jeter and Rivera Named to All-Star Team

Three New York Yankees were named to the 2008 American League All-Star team. Alex Rodriguez led the way, garnering the most All-Star votes for the second consecutive year. This will mark the 12th time in 13 seasons that Rodriguez has made the team. Derek Jeter will join A-Rod in the starting line-up, marking his ninth appearance on the All-Star roster. Mariano Rivera will also make his ninth All-Star appearance, his first since 2006.

Girardi Asked to Serve as All-Star Coach

Manager Joe Girardi of the Yankees was asked to serve as a coach for the Major League Baseball All-Star game in New York. Yankee Stadium will host the game July 15 in its final season. Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona will guide the AL team and Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle will lead the NL side. Francona invited Girardi and Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland to be AL coaches.

The New York Yankees made their thirteenth consecutive postseason appearance in 2007 as the American League Wild Card team, but fell in four games to the Cleveland Indians in the first round Division Series.
